I have been blessed with the gift of dyslexia and being ambidextrous. Words and numbers jumble in front of my eyes in an array of colours and shapes, while my hands translate them into colourful paintings and complex 3D shapes. I often paint on two canvases, upside-down, with both hands simultaneously. My practice sharpens my ability to look beyond the object, to convey an idea, a thought, a struggle into a visual spectacle.
My work focuses on the dynamics between emotions, memory, and location, as well as the relationship between materials and textures. Bold colour paintings and constructed surfaces are an integral part of my work’s narrative, and are used to enhance concepts and ideas about gender, politics, colour theory, and the psychology of colour association. I examine the boundaries between private and public spaces, depicting bodies as landscapes, and cityscapes as colour panels.
